Practical AI Governance: Governing the AI Already in Use

Most organisations discover AI through staff accounts, vendor features, local automations and suppliers. This course starts with those real uses and turns them into decisions, owners and evidence.

Non-award professional education. This course is not an accredited qualification and does not provide academic credit toward a Nexus degree.

Start with actual use

The course is designed for a mixed group from management, technology, HR, legal, privacy, risk and procurement. Participants work from tools and workflows they can name, then identify where specialist legal, privacy, security or safety advice is required.

Employee use

Public AI accounts used for chat, transcription, images, coding or drafting.

Vendor features

Summarisation, recommendation, search or automation added to purchased software.

Teams and suppliers

Local automations and contractor use that may sit outside the organisation’s central approval process.

Six decisions the group works through

Find the AI

Record tools, features, users, purposes, information entered, outputs and suppliers.

Sort uses by consequence

Consider the information received and whether outputs affect employment, money, access, safety or customers.

Question the supplier

Ask about retention, training use, hosting, subcontractors, evidence and product changes.

Set a rule and name an owner

Decide whether each use is allowed, conditional, paused or stopped, with an accountable owner.

Test one live use

Walk through normal use, wrong output, sensitive-data entry and an unexpected product change.

Make the next decisions

Assign owners and due dates for contract, setting, instruction and specialist-advice actions.
